German Jury of MEDUSA Project Announce Shortlist

The German jury of the European project MEDUSA – Contemporary Playwriting in Europe (funded by Creative Europe) is delighted to announce its first selection of contemporary German-language plays.

In early June, the selected works will be brought to the Kulturfactory in Domicella (Italy) by the jury, where they will be presented to partner institutions from Italy and Bulgaria during the transnational MEDUSA Observatory.

MEDUSA is a trinational project funded by Creative Europe, bringing together partner institutions from Germany, Italy, and Bulgaria: En Kai Pan, Casa del Contemporaneo, 36 Monkeys, Eurodram Bulgaria, Das Kombinat e. V., and Drama Panorama: Forum für Übersetzung und Theater e. V.

At the heart of the project lies theatre translation as an artistic practice of mediation and exchange, and the international circulation of contemporary drama. MEDUSA will present new European plays to audiences through translation and staged readings at festivals, residencies and other formats in Berlin, Sofia, and Naples from June 2026 to June 2027.

Selected plays:

The German jury consisted of Charlotte Bomy (independent curator and theatre translator, Drama Panorama), Monica Marotta (head of programming, Grüner Salon at Volksbühne Berlin/Das Kombinat), Maxi Obexer (playwright/NIDS) and Yunus Ersoy (dramaturgy, Schauspiel Hannover).
