EURODRAM: call for German-language plays

EURODRAM is a network active across Europe that fosters exchange between translators, writers and the European theatre scene.

Every spring, the different committees compile a selection of three texts – alternating yearly between original plays and play translations.

For the 2018 selection, the German EURODRAM committee is looking for original plays written in German.

The plays must not be older than five years. They should have had a premiere production, but no further productions or foreign-language productions.

The residence and nationality of the author are irrelevant for selection.

The 2018 selection will be presented in April 2018 in Vienna in the Theater Drachengasse as a staged reading, after which there will be a discussion.

One of the selected texts will be translated into another EURODRAM network language in cooperation with the Goethe Institute as part of its translation funding programme.

In connection with the event in Vienna, the Federal Chancellery of Austria will also award a translation bursary of 1,300 Euro for the translation of one of the submitted Austrian plays.

Plays can be submitted either by the authors themselves or by a publisher, but must include written permission from the writer or the publisher that the play can be used for EURODRAM readings free of charge.

We ask publishers not to submit any more than three plays.

Interested translators (German – other language) are welcome to apply to cooperate on the project with a CV, bibliography and a test translation.

Text submissions and applications from translators can be sent to the coordinator of the German committee, Ulrike Syha, at syha@gmx.net.

The deadline for submissions is the 10.01.2018.

The selection will be announced in mid-March 2018.
