The Ein Stück: Tschechien Festival, produced by Drama Panorama e. V. since 2014 in Berlin, is a platform for contemporary Czech theatre.

This october, the anthology Am Wannenrand. Tschechische Gegenwartsdramatik. Berlin: Neofelis, 2026, ed. Barbora Schnelle, introduced nine plays from the Ein Stück: Tschechien Festival during the past few years. This book will now be presented in Berlin at a festive release event with a staged reading of the eponymous play Am Wannenrand by young Czech playwright Natálie Bočková.

Programme

Natálie Bočková: Am Wannenrand

translated from Czech by Maira Neubert

The play is a sarcastic study of the failed relationship between Sofie (22) and Thomas (23). It recounts the story of an emerging director and a food deliverer, dramatically constructed as the clash of two life plans unveiling the social rift, classism, and the artist’s mannerism. In laconic dialogues with subtle undertones, the playwright builds a complex model of a toxic relationship on the most limited space. When she is finally accepted for the training programme as stage director, Thomas suddenly does not fit in with Sofie’s world anymore. In 2022, the play received the Evald Schorm Award.
