Tom\u00e1\u0161 Diani\u0161ka received the most votes from the audience for his play Spottschau <\/em>(orig. Transky, body, vte\u0159iny<\/em>) at the Ein St\u00fcck: Tschechien 2023 festival. On 24\/11\/2023, the festival’s traditional staged readings took place at the Theater unterm Dach. In addition to Diani\u0161ka’s play, the plays Regale<\/em> (orig. Tom\u00e1\u0161 Diani\u0161ka: <\/strong>Spottschau<\/strong> <\/em>(orig. Transky, body, vte\u0159iny<\/em>)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The play is inspired by the life story of the successful athlete Zdena Koubkov\u00e1 (1913-1986), who was mistakenly assigned a female identity at birth. Koubkov\u00e1 was celebrated in the sports world of the time as a “wonder woman” and held several world records (including in the women’s 800-meter track distance). In 1936, she was identified as intersex by a doctor, underwent gender reassignment surgery to become Zden\u011bk Koubek. In addition to the fate of the main character, Diani\u0161ka’s play also describes the world of the 1930s with its increasing fascism, permeated by homophobia, transphobia and gender stereotypes. In his tragicomic play, the author presents a mosaic of important moments in Zden\u011bk Koubek’s life. Successful sporting milestones alternate with emotional and intimate moments, which ultimately lead to a strong coming-out of the main character. The production of the play at the Petr Bezru\u010d Theater in Ostrava won the 2019 Theatre Critics’ Award in the categories Production of the Year and Czech Contemporary Play. The actor playing the lead role, Jakub Bur\u00fd\u0161ek, was named Talent of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom\u00e1\u0161 Diani\u0161ka (*1984) studied acting at the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and became a member of the ensemble of the F. X. \u0160alda Theater in Liberec, where he played more than 30 roles. He is the main author and actor of the F. X. Kalba Theater, which was originally founded as a “punk offshoot” of the F. X. \u0160alda Theater, but later became independent and merged with the Palmovka Theater. As an author, he participated in the productions Zvrhl\u00e1 Margaret <\/em>(Perverted Margaret<\/em>) and House of Love 2: N\u00e1vrat hezk\u00fdch hoch\u016f <\/em>(House of Love 2: Return of the Beautiful Boys<\/em>) at the A studio Rub\u00edn Theater. For the F. X. \u0160alda Theater in Liberec he wrote Googling and Fucking<\/em>, Mickey Mouse je mrtv\u00fd <\/em>(Mickey Mouse is Dead<\/em>), LSDown<\/em>, Logo<\/em>, Diani\u0161ka je B\u016fh <\/em>(Diani\u0161ka is God<\/em>) and Atomov\u00e1 ko\u010di\u010dka <\/em>(Atomic Cat<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has been a member of the Divadlo pod Palmovkou (Theater under Palmovka) acting ensemble since September 2014. He has performed several plays at the PALM OFF studio stage: 1000 v\u011bc\u00ed, co m\u011b serou <\/em>(1000 things I think suck<\/em>; theater adaptation of the blog of the same name), Ml\u010den\u00ed bob\u0159\u00edk\u016f <\/em>(Ml\u010den\u00ed bob\u0159\u00edk\u016f), Jak sbalit \u017eenu 2.0<\/em>. The Silence of the Beavers<\/em>), Jak sbalit \u017eenu 2.0 <\/em>(How to Hook Up with a Woman 2.0<\/em>, a theatrical adaptation of the book of the same name by T. Bar\u00e1nek), Pus\u0165te Donnu k maturit\u011b! <\/em>(Let Donna graduate<\/em>!), Posledn\u00ed d\u016fvod, pro\u010d se nezab\u00edt<\/em> (The last reason not to kill yourself<\/em>; theater adaptation of the blog of the same name) and Bezruk\u00fd Frant\u00edk <\/em>(Frant\u00edk Without Arms<\/em>, written with I. Orozovich; transferred to the main stage of the theater under Palmovka due to great audience interest), 294 state\u010dn\u00fdch <\/em>(294 Brave Ones<\/em>) and Encyklopedie ak\u010dn\u00edho filmu <\/em>(Encyclopedia of Action Film<\/em>), both already conceived for the main stage. Tom\u00e1\u0161 Diani\u0161ka also acts in all of these productions and directs many of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to his home theater Divadlo pod Palmovkou, Tom\u00e1\u0161 Diani\u0161ka works as an author and actor with several Prague theaters, including MeetFactory, Divadlo LET\u00cd, A Studio Rub\u00edn, Masopust Theater Group, Chemick\u00e9 divadlo (Chemical Theater), Divadlo X10 and others. He worked as a director at the Chamber Theater Ar\u00e9na Ostrava (V. Klim\u00e1\u010dek: Comics<\/em>) and at the Petr Bezru\u010d Theater in Ostrava – where he staged his plays Spottschau <\/em>(Transky, body, vte\u0159iny<\/em>) and \u0160pinarka <\/em>(The \u0160pinarov\u00e1<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to his description, Diani\u0161ka writes pop pieces that take a satirical look at well-known cultural phenomena. In his original and eclectic style, he mixes different genres, including documentary material, dime novels, westerns and comic book heroes. He has received a number of prestigious awards for his plays. His production of his own play Transky, body, vte\u0159iny<\/em> at the Petr Bezru\u010d Theater in Ostrava was named best production of the year and best Czech play of the year at the 2019 Czech Theatre Critics’ Awards. His most recent play, 294 Brave Ones<\/em>, was named best play of the year at the 2020 Theatre Critics’ Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Audience Award comes with a one-week stay in Berlin and a staged reading of a new play by the author next year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
