She views the German translations as equally original texts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Barbora Schnelle <\/strong>is a translator from the Czech Republic who translates between Czech and German in both directions.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drama-panorama.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Barbora-Sivan-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10656\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Schnelle, Ben Yishai | Photo: Ben Yishai<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We live in a multilingual society, but we still insist on a hierarchical classification of the languages that we speak and talk about mother tongues, native languages, and first, second or third languages. This designation also goes hand in hand with certain roles, competencies or even class models of the languages. Which languages should we or are we allowed to write or translate in? Who decides which languages these are and why? And how do the languages influence each other? How does switching between several languages in one body work? What creative energies are released here, what contexts are served?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And how do collaborative processes between writers and translators work, when the writers don\u2019t understand the target language of the translation?&nbsp;How can one\u2019s own work be presented transparently or the translation approach explained? The starting point for this day-long workshop is the collaboration between Barbora Schnelle and Sivan Ben Yishai, who both work in multilingual and collaborative contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Programme<\/strong> <strong>(with lunch soup and <\/strong><strong>coffee break):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10:30 &#8211; 12:30 Morning block with a performative impulse reading by Sivan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">&#8212; 12:30 &#8211; 13:30 Lunch break &#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13:30 &#8211; 15:00 Afternoon block: Languages, theater, performativity. She studied theater studies and aesthetics\/cultural studies in Brno, Berlin and Vienna. In 2001, she completed her PhD at the Institute of Theatre Studies at Masaryk University in Brno with a thesis on Elfriede Jelinek&#8217;s plays (as a book: <em>Elfriede Jelinek a jej\u00ed divadlo proti divadlu\/Elfriede Jelinek und ihr Theater gegen das Theater<\/em>, Brno, 2006) and worked here as a university assistant. She is co-founder of the \u201cInternet theater magazine of factual rage\u201d <em>Yorick<\/em>. She has been living in Berlin since 2001, working as a freelance translator (plays by Elfriede Jelinek, Thomas Bernhard, Peter Handke, Werner Schwab, Maxi Obexer, Kathrin R\u00f6ggla, Mehdi Moradpour, Wolfram Lotz, Sivan Ben Yishai and others into Czech and plays by Roman Sikora, Eva Prchalov\u00e1, Kate\u0159ina Rud\u010denkov\u00e1, Tom\u00e1\u0161 Diani\u0161ka and others into German). In 2009, together with Antje Oegel, she founded the association \u201cDrama Panorama: Forum for Translation and Theater\u201d, where she has been organizing events and workshops ever since. In 2014, she founded the festival of new Czech drama \u201cEin St\u00fcck: Tschechien\u201d in Berlin, which she has been directing and curateing ever since. She teaches as a guest lecturer at Masaryk University in Brno and Humboldt University in Berlin. Her anthology of contemporary Czech drama, <em>Von Masochisten und Mamma-Guerillas<\/em>, was published by Neofelis Verlag in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drama-panorama.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/sivan_ben_yishai_photo_birgit_kaulfuss_kl.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7256\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Sivan Ben Yishai | Foto: Birgit Kaulfu\u00df<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Sivan Ben Yishai <\/strong>is a playwright and director from Israel who has lived in Berlin since 2012. Her plays are widely performed on German-speaking stages and have been awarded several of the most important German theater prizes. She was invited to the M\u00fclheim Drama Prize 2020 with the play <em>LOVE\/An argumentative exercise<\/em>, which was created as part of her residency at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. For <em>WOUNDS ARE FOREVER (Self-Portrait as a National Poet)<\/em>, which deals with Palestinian-Israeli-German history, she received the M\u00fclheim Drama Prize 2022. For her play <em>Nora oder Wie man das Herrenhaus kompostiert<\/em>, a socio-critical examination of Ibsen&#8217;s <em>Nora<\/em>, she received the M\u00fclheim Drama Prize 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, she was awarded the Berlin Theater Prize. This was the first time the prize was awarded to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to German-language theater without writing in German.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With her play <em>Like Lovers Do (Memoirs of Medusa)<\/em> in a production by the M\u00fcnchner Kammerspiele (director: P\u0131nar Karabulut), she was already invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2022 and was represented again in 2023 with <em>Nora. A Thriller <\/em>by Sivan Ben Yishai, Hendrik Ibsen, Gerhild Steinbuch, Ivna \u017dic (director: Felicitas Brucker).
